Frequently Asked Questions
I'm not familiar with therapy. What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy?
I understand there are many therapy modalities and it can seem like a minefield trying to understand what type of therapy you'll benefit from. Put simply, this type of therapy focuses on trying to understand how our earlier experiences have come to influence our current issues, whether consciously or unconsciously. This may involve thinking together about key life experiences or perhaps difficult relationships with significant people or family members. The aim is to facilitate self-awareness and self-exploration within the safe confines of the therapeutic relationship.
How many sessions do I need to have?
The duration of therapy is hard to predict and depends on what you wish to explore. I offer both weekly short-term therapy (12 weeks) and weekly long-term therapy (open-ended). I find it useful to think about which option would be most helpful during an initial consultation. This is split into two sessions for a more in-depth exploration of the relevant issues. It may be that you want to start with short-term therapy and during this time, you decide to proceed onto long-term therapy at the end of 12 sessions. Ultimately, the decision is yours - you have to feel comfortable.
How often do we need to meet?
To gain the most from therapy, we would meet once a week for 50 minutes, on the same day and time for consistency.
What are your fees?
My standard fees are listed on the 'Fees' page of my website and start from £90.00 for both online and in-person therapy.
Are your fees fixed?
In the interests of transparency, I maintain fixed fees for all clients to ensure consistency and fairness across the board.
Why is therapy so expensive?
Prioritising your emotional and mental health can have huge benefits. Regular therapy can significantly improve your relationships, your work and your overall well-being. I find it helpful to think of it as an investment in yourself, just as you would with a gym membership or other recreational activity.
What is your cancellation policy?
If we are working together, I ask that you let me know about any upcoming dates where you'll be unable to make your regular session. Unfortunately, missed sessions are chargeable. I understand that this may feel frustrating or perhaps sound unfair, however, it is important to recognise that your session is reserved for you; it is not possible to fill it.
I appreciate that you may have more questions or thoughts, so please feel free to contact me.
